Here's my setup. I have an AirPort Extreme and a Comcast modem setup in my downstairs living room. My house is only 1200 sqft. I am trying to add the RE4100W to get better coverage upstairs. When I connect, upstairs, via wifi to the AirPort I get the following speeds (from speedtest.net): 2.4GHz: 60-70 Mbps down. 5.0GHz: 75-100 Mbps down

I decided to upgrad to a mesh system since Apple discontinued the AirPort Extreme, first I went with the Linksys Velop (3 node) system.
The airport extreme isn't going to recognize it if you can't go through setup. If you can't access it via wireless using the defaults then you'll have to do it over a hardwired connection.
